Good LFE was born from a problem and one woman’s determination to solve it. After the birth of her third child, Krystyna Houser felt like something was deeply wrong. It began with brain fog and a rash and progressed to extreme bloating, depression, and various GI issues.  Her symptoms were not only making her miserable but they were impacting and restricting huge parts of her daily life.  Determined to get better, she began what amounted to a health odyssey as she visited doctor after doctor. After almost two years of being told that it was “all in her head” or related to post-partum, Krystyna finally connected with Dr. Mark Pimentel and Dr. Ali Rezaie of Cedars Sinai Los Angeles. Two of the foremost gastroenterologists in the world, Dr. Pimentel and Dr. Rezaie are known for their pioneering research in SIBO, IBS and gut health.

The doctors diagnosed her with Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) and she began their recommended course of treatment: a brief cleanse of her GI system using an “elemental diet," followed by a longer term diet of Low Fermentation Eating. At this point, the doctors connected Krystyna with expert nutritionist Robin Berlin, RDN, and the two collaborated on treating her illness through foods that followed their Low Fermentation Eating plan. The change was dramatic and as Krystyna healed she regained not only her health but also the ability to enjoy food and life again.

Although Krystyna's SIBO journey was complete, she wanted to help others struggling with gut health issues and make it faster and easier for SIBO sufferers to find relief. The average SIBO diagnosis takes six years and it is estimated that 10-15% of the adult US population suffers from some combination of SIBO/IBS. In Krystyna's words, "It shouldn't be this hard for anyone." She pulled together a team of the best and began to build Good LFE, a company dedicated to bringing joy and freedom back to anyone suffering through SIBO/IBS or other microbiome imbalances.

The first step was understanding the science behind SIBO/IBS and Low Fermentation Eating and sharing it with the world.  To this end, Dr. Pimentel and Dr. Rezaie began by writing their book The Microbiome Connection: Your Guide to IBS, SIBO and Low Fermentation Eating. This book is the foundation of everything that we do at Good LFE.   After you understand the science, the next step on your SIBO/IBS journey is to apply this knowledge of Low Fermentation Eating to your daily life. Krystyna and Robin cherrypicked and refined all their favorite foods and recipes from Krystyna's treatment and turned them into The Good LFE Cookbook: Low Fermentation Eating for SIBO, Gut Health and Microbiome Balance.

Designed in tandem with our books, goodLFE.com is another resource for anyone struggling with SIBO/IBS or other microbiome imbalances.  We want to help you on your SIBO/IBS journey and share our decades of science and nutrition backed learnings.  On goodLFE.com you can dive as deeply into the science as you would like or you can just find some fresh and satisfying SIBO-friendly recipes from The Good LFE Cookbook and Krystyna's kitchen.

Through our books and goodLFE.com, we hope to bring back the joy of eating and good health to everyone suffering through SIBO, IBS and gut imbalances. More to come...
